Access and control vocabularies

Subject Headings

The library accepts the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) only (the fields 600, 610, 611, 650, and 651 with the 2nd indicator 0). All other subject headings are deleted.

Classification

Resources are classified by Library of Congress Classification Numbers (monographs and serials), SuDocs (government documents), and local schemes (sound recordings and microforms).

Names and subject authorities

Authority records are updated according to their LC/OCLC authorities current releases published in paper and online (in LC ClassWeb).

Local authorities

Local authority records are created in Voyager for headings  that do not have national authority records and unlikely will have them in the future (see detailed guidelines in the Database Maintenance section).

Records upgrade and enhancements

Old records in the local database

Records included in Voyager previously and created according to previous editions of cataloging rules do not upgraded.

Old records in OCLC

Non-ISBD OCLC copies may be accepted without editing by copy catalogers.

Minimal level records

Records for non-fiction with no Library of Congress Subject Heading and/or Library of Congress Classification call number, must be classified and upgraded with at least one LCSH.
