Glossary

 Added entry For the MARC record, entries in addition to the 1xx entry which are given in 7xx fields. In card catalog days, these would be cards with only a brief record on them
Collective title A title proper that is an inclusive title for an item containing several works (e.g. “Beethoven’s greatest hits,” “Jessye Norman sings the blues,” or “Polka music we all know and love.”)
 Container The CD’s jewel case. Secondarily, any parts of the insert(s) that can be seen when the jewel case is closed.
Insert The booklet or card generally inserted in the front of the jewel case. With larger sets, it may also be laid in the container.
Label The side of a CD that has words and/or pictures printed on it. This is the chief source of information for sound recordings.
Main entry For the MARC record, this refers to the person or body who receives the 1xx entry. If there is no 1xx entry, the 245 is considered the main entry. In card catalog days, the entire record would have been typed on the card with this heading.
Non-collective title A listing of all works included on the sound recording.
Phonogram copyright The type of copyright used for sound recordings, represented by a “p ” inside a circle.
 Title proper The main title of an item, as it appears on the item itself. In MARC format, the information found in the 245 $a.
 Uniform title  The standardized title for a work or collection of works.
