Holdings and item record

Holdings record usually includes description labels such as Database, Location, Call Number, and Status. It can includes also “Remote access” description label (856 field), Public Note with a local information.

If bibliographic record has a LCCN, holdings record normally would have $852 $a $b $h $i

My suggestion for these cases is to follow a local practice:  leave call number as is in Bibliographic record, and DO NOT INCLUDE IT to holdings record. Voyager displays in OPAC the holdings record number; it does not show bibliographic records’ numbers to the public.

Holdings record (Cataloging module)

Example:
852 $b Electronic Resource (Web)
852 $b Electronic Resource (Web)

OPAC display:
Location
: Electronic Resource (Web)

Holdings record for serials includes repeatable 856 to Holdings record.  This is unclear if this is a better practice.  Currently, records for Web sites and databases have the 856 field in Bibliographic record.

Some libraries create an item record for the remote IR. The WSU Libraries decision is DO NOT CREATE ITEM record for these type of resources.  OPAC display: Item: No item available
