The Collection

The Music Library is located in the Duerksen Fine Arts Center in room C116, across from the Music Office.  The Music Library began as a departmental collection and was incorporated in to the University Libraries system in 1981.  The library is named in honor of composer and former dean of the Wichita State University School of Music, Thurlow Lieurance.  The Music Library collection consists of scores, sound recordings (compact discs, cassettes and phonograph records), and basic music reference materials.  The collection's primary purpose is to support the music curriculum, therefore the acquisition of new materials emphasizes the current areas of study and performance.

The Music Library staff provides assistance in locating requested items.  They are trained in the use of the Library's online catalog, the use of standard music reference sources and the use of listening equipment for various audio formats.  The Music Librarian is available for more complex reference questions and more comprehensive user assistance.
