Find here entries for people and musical show titles.  This can be helpful to check for information about which singers are associated with which musicals and for some information on behind-the-scenes artists (i.e., costume designers, producers, etc.).

A Century of Musicals in Black and White  REF ML102.M88 P37 1993
This contains entries for musical stage works by, about or involving African Americans, with a history of each show, credits and a brief bibliography where possible.  This also provides a very useful name index.

The Encyclopedia of the Musical Theatre (Gänzl) REF ML102.M88 G3 2001
These 3 volumes provide a most thorough treatment of musical theatre people and shows including operettas, burlesques and zarzuelas.  This also contains short bibliographies and lengthy works lists of authors and composers.  This is the 2nd edition.  The 1st edition is available in Ablah Library, 2nd floor.

The American Musical Film Song Encyclopedia  REF ML102.M68 H57 1999
The central portion of this book provides short descriptive entries about songs from musical films.  Notably helpful are sections providing alternate song titles, a listing of famous musical film songs from other sources, a list of films with the songs they contain and a general index.

Biographical Dictionary of Afro-American and African Musicians (Southern)  REF ML105.S67 1982
For biographical information on Afro-American and African musicians in a wide variety of music occupations throughout history.  With brief but useful bibliographies.

Sweet and Lowdown (Craig)  REF ML106.U3 C75
This title provides brief biographical information on American songwriters, often involved in theatrical productions, listings of their songs. 

American Women Songwriters (Grattan)  REF ML106.U3 G73 1993
This provides biographical information on women songwriters in various genres, but has a chapter specific to musical theatre.

Show Tunes (Suskin)  REF ML128.M78 S86 2000
The 3rd edition of this title looks at the musicals of 36 major composers along with 46 other notable shows.  Use the indexes to songs, shows and people.  The appendices provide a chronology, a listing of collaborators and a bibliography.  An earlier edition is located in Ablah Library, 2nd floor.

Songs of the Theater  (Lewine and Simon)  REF ML128.S3 L55 1984
Covering the late nineteenth century through 1983, and in 2 sections, this work lists songs by title and shows with their songs.  It also provides composer/lyricist credits, the date the show opened, and indices by composer, lyricist and author. 

The Blue Book of Broadway Musicals (Burton)  REF ML200.5 B88 1969
Find here musicals arranged by decade and composer, with entries of basic information about the show, cast lists, songs, and with an index by show title.

Broadway Musicals Show by Show (Green)  REF ML1711.G735 1996
Arranged chronologically, each show entry provides credits, cast and notes on the history and significance of the work.  This also contains indices by show, people, and theaters.  This is the 5th edition.  Earlier editions are located in on the 2nd floor of Ablah Library.

American Musical Theatre (Bordman)  REF ML1711.B67 2001
A history of musical theatre, from the beginnings to 1990, this work is accessible primarily through its indexes to shows, songs and people. 

A Chronology of American Musical Theater (Norton) REF ML1711.8 .N3 N67 2002
These 3 volumes cover 1750-2001, listing productions in chronological order by season.  Use this as a companion to American Musical Theatre (Bordman) listed above.  Contains indicies for shows, songs and people.
