Current Awareness Resources
Multiple tools exist to help health providers navigate through health
information. A couple of ideas are listed below.
Create Alerts: One useful method is to create Journal and/or Search Alerts
in the database(s) of your choice. Once you create an account,
databases often provide
the option to have results sent to you either via email or RSS feed. If
you are unfamiliar with the process of setting up an alert, you will
generally be able to find tips and guides in Help sections of the
database you are using. For example,
PubMed's Distance Education Tutorials includes
tutorials for
Setting
up Email Alerts for Articles from Your Favorite Journals and
Saving Searches and Emailing Updated Results. You will find similar
Help content in other databases such as EBSCOhost and CSA.
Medworm: Another
resource for keeping up is to use MedWorm as either a search or RSS tool. "MedWorm is a medical RSS feed provider as well as a search
engine built on data collected from RSS feeds." In other words, MedWorm
may be employed to either use the search engine to search the content of
over 5000 authoritative RSS feeds or to subscribe to
hundreds of new RSS feeds by category.
