A guide as well as a dictionary of western art and architecture.  The essay section contains extensive bibliographies, along with some color reproductions.

Containing not only a facsimile reproduction of the artists’ signature or monogram, this also provides an index to bibliographical information from over 80 sources, notably containing entries for regional artists. 

Monogramm Lexikon  (Goldstein)  REF N45.G6
A resource for artists’ monograms, alphabetically arranged by monogram, with an index to names.  This covers artists active since 1850.

Key Dates in Art History  REF N5300.M34
This lists important events in art history from 600 B.C. through the 1960s.  Not in a completely linear time chart format, but each time period is subdivided geographically.

In 3 volumes this is a reprint of the original 1918-1921 title.  This documents art sales of the eighteenth century through the early twentieth century.  Listed by artist, this records the date of auction, the auctioneer, the owner, lot number and title of work in question, purchaser and sale price.

Illustrators of Children’s Books  REF NC965.M59
The initial volume covers illustrators from 1744-1945, including the history and development of illustrated books for children, brief biographies of living illustrators of the time and helpful bibliographies.  Three supplemental volumes cover the years 1946-1976.

The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons  NC1325.W67 1980b
These 2 illustrated volumes provide international coverage of caricature, editorial, political, sports, syndicated panel and animated cartoons.  Volume 2 also contains a selective bibliography, a glossary and indices by name, subject, illustration, place and contributor.

This 2 volume encyclopedia covers all areas of the arts associated with the Harlem Renaissance, with bibliographies and a very useful index.

A product of the Smithsonian Institution, this 4 volume annotated bibliography covers art of Native Americans, architecture, decorative arts, design, sculpture, art of the west, painting, graphic arts and artists, photography, film, theater, dance, and  music.  Volume 4 is an index.

Dictionary of the Avant-Gardes  REF NX456.K67 2000
This work covers not only the visual arts but music, film, dance and theater.  Though rather brief, articles include bibliographies for further reading.  This is the second edition of this work.  An earlier version is available on the second floor of the library.

The Oxford Guide to Classical Mythology in the Arts, 1300-1990s  REF NX650.M9 R45 1993
In 2 volumes this is an index to artworks (in the fine arts, music, dance and literature) from the Renaissance through the 20th century with subjects in Greek and Roman mythology.  Main entries are under the Greek title given for central mythological figures or commonly known themes, with cross-references from Roman names.  Volume 2 also contains an index to artists whose works are listed under main entries.

This dictionary of culture (including biographical entries) covers architecture, artistic theory, film, literature, craft, design, dance, fashion, music, mythology, painting, photography, sculpture and theatre, all throughout history.

Dictionary of Translated Names and Titles  REF  NX80.R66 1986
Titles of artistic creations (plays, novels, films, musical works, paintings, and etc.), characters (historical and mythical), biblical personages, historical events and geographical names, are here given in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian, with cross-indices in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian. 

Encyclopedia of the Romantic Era 1760-1850  REF NX452.5.R64 E53 2004
In 2 volumes this work covers all aspects of the arts during this time period.  Particularly useful are topical articles and discussions over artistic works associated with the romantic movement.  Articles conclude with listings of selected works and bibliographies.
