Pal V. Rao - Selected Professional Contributions

Eastern Illinois University

1. Developed an infrastructure to manage information systems and services sensitive to user needs.
2. Served on virtually all university committees and Faculty Senate.
3. Served as a faculty delegate in collective bargaining contract formulation and later as an administrator implemented the contractual provisions.
4. Played a major role in faculty and staff development activities through the introduction of new technologies and training.          
5. Represented the university at many state, regional and national conferences.

Central Missouri State University

 1.
As the first Dean of Library Services, managed the realignment of library, university media services, and the department of library science and information services into a unified administrative structure. The realigned services were able to better respond to our client needs.
 2.  Identified the need for a new library building and mobilized the academic community to support the new building program.
 3. Added new faculty and new staff positions to the Library Services personnel.
 4. Played a major role in developing the telecommunications infrastructure on campus through membership in the Telecommunications Steering Committee.
 5. Represented the institution on the KCRCHE (Kansas City Regional Consortium for Higher Education) Telecommunications Committee.
 6. Selected as a Delegate to the Missouri Governor's Conference on Libraries and Information Services.
 7. Elected to represent the State of Missouri on OCLC Access Services Advisory Committee.
 8. Elected to Missouri Library Network Corporation (MLNC) Board.
 9. Co-founded Missouri Academic Library Administrators (MALA) Group.
10. Directed all aspects of a new $30 million library building which was dedicated on March 24, 1999.
11. Developed the library as a leader for innovative information technology services among Missouri academic libraries.
12. Appointed by the Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education to serve on the statewide telecommunications committee.
13. As Chair of MPALA, succeeded in promoting a plan which was funded by the Missouri Legislature to develop a statewide library network consortium.
14. Appointed by the Missouri Secretary of State to serve on the Missouri Local Records Board
15. Guided the development of a new graduate program in Library Information Technology.
16. Created an infrastructure to support faculty and staff professional development.
17. Participated in $6 million fund raising activity for the new library building.
