Presentation and Trial

A campus-wide trial of WoS has been set up. The trial period is from October 1, 2007 through November 30, 2007. The trial url is http://proxy.wichita.edu/login?url=http://isiknowledge.com. (To access the new interface for Web of Science that will be available to subscribers at the end of 2007, click on the button, "Access the new version", at the top of the page.

Faculty and staff attended a "Lunch and Learn" presentation of the database, Web of Science, on October 10 from 12:00-1:30 PM in the RSC Ballroom. Sponsored by Thomson Scientific, WSU University Libraries, and WSU Center for Teaching and Research Excellence (CTRE), this vendor presentation included a free box lunch and a drawing for a $100 American Express Gift Cheque. Attendees learned  how to use this interdisciplinary research tool in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences to track citations to published research (including your own) and to discover the impact of the work of WSU faculty on the global research community. With Web of Science, you can:

• conduct searches for articles based on cited references as well as by topic, author, journal, etc.
• conduct comprehensive searches for research articles across disciplines
• search for cited references to your own work for tenure and promotion files
• track the influence and impact of your research on the global community
• identify research trends for efficient allocation of research funding
• compare the publishing and citation patterns of our institution with peer institutions
