Resource of the Month
October 2006
Each month WSU Libraries' Department of Collection Development features
a "Resource of the Month" designed to highlight some of the library's new, interesting,
under-used, large, unique, or otherwise noteworthy collections and
resources. You can learn more about the "Resource of the Month" on
this website, from the display in the reference area, by attending a
workshop (if available), or by contacting the Reference Desk at
978-3584.

Columbia
International Affairs Online (CIAO) was created in 1997 as a
collaborative effort between the Columbia University libraries and
Columbia University Press. It is an Internet-based resource
containing full text scholarly works in international affairs back to 1991.

How Do I
Access CIAO?
There is a
link on the WSU Libraries' website under Electronic Resources /
Electronic Databases. You have the option of looking for it under
the subject links or the alphabetic links (http://library.wichita.edu/colldev/electrondatabase.htm).
If you are accessing
CIAO
from off-campus you will be prompted to
enter your myWSU ID number and password for authentication
purposes.
Why Should
I Use CIAO?
Researchers will
find CIAO to be a comprehensive source for research and theory in
international affairs. The site includes journal articles, policy
briefs, working papers, case studies, foundation-funded research
projects, books, course packs, and conference proceedings. Each
month focuses on a specific topic, September's topic was International
Higher Education.
CIAO provides a few
additional functions like a event schedule and maps/country studies.
A schedule of scholarly events in foreign affairs and security policy
allows you to do a quick search or a guided search using subject,
region, time range, and/or organizer. The link to the CIAO atlas
provides maps and country information. This atlas allows you to
search by region, country, or by statistic and includes a comparison
tool which gives the user the ability to do a country comparison.
