Resource of the Month
July 2006
Each month WSU Libraries' Department of Collection Development features
a "Resource of the Month" designed to highlight some of the library's new, interesting,
under-used, large, unique, or otherwise noteworthy collections and
resources. You can learn more about the "Resource of the Month" on
this website, from the display in the reference area, by attending a
workshop (if available), or by contacting the Reference Desk at
978-3584.
If you are
interested in learning more about a previous "Resource of the Month,"
check the
archive.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online provides access to multiple
resources from one location. Search results include encyclopedia
articles, related web sites, multimedia, and much more. A pop-up
Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus are only a
mouse-click away. Citations appear at the bottom of each article.

How Do I
Access Encyclopaedia Britannica Online?
There is a
link on the WSU Libraries' website under Electronic Resources /
Electronic Databases. You have the option of looking for it under
the subject links or the alphabetic links (http://library.wichita.edu/colldev/electrondatabase.htm).
If you are accessing the
Encyclopaedia Britannica Online from off-campus you will be prompted to
enter your Shocker Card number and PIN number for authentication
purposes.
Why Should
I Use Encyclopaedia Britannica Online?
Encyclopaedia Britannica Online offers the depth of coverage of an
encyclopedia combined with the power and breadth of the Internet which
makes searching for information more complete and easier. Articles
include an interactive Table of Contents, page numbers, and section
headings to help orient users within each article. Citation
information is available at the bottom of each article.
Two
features of Encyclopaedia Britannica add value to the research
experience: Gateway to the Classics and the online "Workspace."
Gateway to the Classics provides an introduction to significant works of
history, literature, philosophy, and science. The online
"Workspace" tool is ideal for collecting and storing material for
research projects. Use this tool to organize the citations, web
links, video clips, articles, and images related to your topic.
