Resource of the Month
January 2006

Each month WSU Libraries' Department of Collection Development features a "Resource of the Month" designed to highlight some of the library's new, interesting, under-used, large, unique, or otherwise noteworthy collections and resources.  You can learn more about the "Resource of the Month" on this website, from the display in the reference area, by attending a workshop (if available), or by contacting the Reference Desk at 978-3584.

If you are interested in learning more about a previous "Resource of the Month," check the archive.

NewsBank provides web-based resources which feature content from newspapers, newswires, business journals, historical and scholarly documents, periodicals and more. NewsBank's resources are used by researchers all over the world to delve into contemporary and historical issues and events.

How Do I Access NewsBank?

There is a link on the WSU Libraries' website under Electronic Resources / Electronic Databases.  You have the option of looking for it under the subject links or the alphabetic links (http://library.wichita.edu/colldev/databases/alphadatabase.htm#M).  If you are accessing NewsBank from off-campus you will be prompted to enter your Shocker Card number and PIN number for authentication purposes.

Why Should I Use NewsBank?

Newspapers and their archived content is ideal for tracking trends and issues.  NewsBank provides access to six Kansas newspapers including the Wichita Eagle. It also provides regional news in the America's Newspapers section and access to global news and perspectives in the Access World News section.  Special reports and "hot topics" are available for use in your research.  If you need a research topic this is a good place to check.

NewsBank is updated daily and features an intuitive search interface which allows users to search individual or multiple titles by headline, date, author, section, topic, name, relevance ranking and more.  It provides more years of archives than any other newspaper source.  NewsBank has the ability to track global issues, news and events.
