The Circulation Department offers many services to its patrons. Inquire at the
Circulation Desk about any of these services.
24 Hour Hold Shelf If you have forgotten your Library card, items
can be placed on the 24-hour hold shelf.
Adaptive Devices Carrel Study room 323 on
Level 3 of the Library is available for students with disabilities. The room itself may
not be reserved unless it is the only room available for testing. The equipment inside the
room may be reserved. For more information, call the Circulation Desk at 978-3582 and ask
for a staff person.
Appeals Library patrons may appeal fines and charges.
Change A dollar change machine is available for your convenience. It
will give you a combination of nickels, dimes, and quarters.
CD-RWs are available for $1.50. These are direct CD
formatted
disks.
Computer Disks are available for $1.00. These are IBM preformatted
disks.
Copiers The Library has copiers available on all levels,
including the 24-hour study room. They accept
coins, Shocker Cards or copy cards. If a copier is out of toner, out of paper, or not
functioning properly, you may report it to the Circulation Desk. Phones are located near
the copiers on Level 2, Level 3, and the Lower Level for the purpose of reporting copier
problems.
Encoding Shocker Cards A Card Value Center (CVC) is located at the
entrance of the Reserve area. The CVC will allow you to add money to your Shocker Card. It
will accept ones, fives, tens, and twenties but will not give you change. You may also
write a check or use a credit card to add value to your card at the Circulation
desk; a minimum of $3.00 must be added. Checks must be written
for the exact amount only.
Fine Collection and Information on Individual Accounts You may pay your
fines or inquire about your account at the Circulation Desk.
Holds / Recalls Holds and recalls can be
placed on items that are currently checked out. When a hold is placed on an item, the
patron requesting the item will be notified when the item is turned in. The patron who has
the item checked out will retain the full circulation period but will not be allowed to
renew the item. When a recall is placed on an item, the item is given a new
earlier due
date and the patron requesting the item will be notified when it is checked in.
Laptops
Ablah Library has ten laptops with wireless access available for check out and use in the library. Laptops
may be checked out from the Circulation Desk located on the main level.
Lost & Found Have you lost something in the library? Check at the
Circulation Desk. Items that are turned in are kept behind the counter for one week, and
then are picked up by the Campus Police Department. Lost Shocker Cards are taken to the
Shocker Card Center weekly.
"Notify" Requests Records of newly acquired books and books
that are on order are listed in the online catalog. These items will not have call
numbers until they have been checked in and cataloged by Library staff. The status
line will say "On Order" or "Copy Received." Patrons who wish to
be notified when these items are available may request them at the Circulation Desk.
Books with "Copy Received" status will generally be processed within three
working days. Books with "On Order" status will be processed as soon as
the Library receives them; however, this could take several months, and patrons may wish
to explore other alternatives such as Interlibrary Loan.
Pens, Pencils, Notebook Paper, and Typing Paper are available from
vending machines near the entrance to the Reserve area.
Registration of Community Users Community
Users may apply for a Library Card at the Circulation Desk.
Scissors, 3-Hole Punch, Stapler, Tape, etc. are available at the table
next to Circulation.
Searches Searches may be requested by patrons when library items that
are not checked out cannot be found. Patrons should check the material's shelf location as
well as the appropriate sorting area prior to requesting a search.
Sorting Areas Sorting areas for books and journals
are located west of the stairwell on the Second and Third floors and west of the restrooms
on the Lower Level. The sorting area consists of book carts and sorting shelves.
Periodicals will be located on the sorting shelves and sorted in runs by call number
order. Books are arranged in call number order on each book cart. Anyone may remove books
or periodicals from the sorting areas. If an item has recently been returned or has been
used in-house, the likelihood of it being in the sorting area is greater.
The sorting area for Government Documents is located in the Government
Documents section on the main level east of the Reference area.
If you have checked the shelf and sorting area and still cannot locate the item, a
search may be requested. If the item is found, it is placed on hold for 7 days. If it is
not found, the item is given a "Reported Missing" status and current WSU
students, faculty or staff may request the item through Interlibrary Loan. Notification of
the status of the search will be sent to the requester by mail or e-mail. Searches can
take from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on the location of the item.
Study Rooms There are
20 group study rooms located throughout the
library. Sixteen of the group rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The
remaining four may be reserved by current WSU students, faculty and staff. Reservations
for groups of two or more people may be made in person at the Circulation Desk, or by
telephone at 978-3582. Reservations must be made at least two hours in advance and no more
than seven days ahead. The rooms may be reserved for up to four hours of time per day per
group.
Transparencies are available for $.60. They can be used in
any copier in the library but there is a copier in Reserve specially designed
for making transparencies.
