Electronic Reserves

 Accessing Electronic Reserve

Your instructor may place class readings in electronic reserve. These readings are accessible from your computer or computer terminals in the Library reference area and 24-hour study room.

To Access course readings on Electronic reserve:

  1. Go to the Library’s online catalog at: http://libcat.wichita.edu/

  2. Click on the "Course Reserve" button.

  3. You may now search by instructor, department, course, or section.

  4. To scroll through the choices, click on the arrow to the right of the box, click on your choice and then click on the "Search" button.

  5. You will now see the list of titles your instructor has placed on reserve.

  6. To determine if the reading is available, click on the title.

  7. If available electronically, there will be a line which indicates "E-Item". Click on the phrase to the right of "E-Item" to access the full text and graphics of the reading.

  8. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to access the readings. Acrobat is loaded on the Library computers or you may download a free copy from the Adobe page at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

  9. Click on the "Get Acrobat Reader Free" text near the bottom of the page. You will then receive step by step instructions to download the software. If you have any difficulty, please contact the Reference Department at 978-3584.

  10. After access, the readings may be printed or read onscreen.

If you are off campus, or not on the Shocknet system, please read the following:

To Access Electronic Reserves from an Off-Campus, Non-Shocknet Site:

  1. You will need your Shocker Card Number and your University PIN number.

  2. Your PIN number is set initially to your birth date. To change your pin go to the following site: http://secure.wichita.edu/wu/index.asp

  3. You will be prompted for your ID and PIN number and you may change your PIN number from this site.

  4. If you have forgotten your PIN or have problems signing onto SOS, please contact the Office of Human Resources at the following numbers: Extensions - Ann 978-3644, Libby 978-6124, Joan 978-6151, or Nancy 978-6162.

  5. All readings are also accessible from the terminals in the Ablah Library both in the Reference area and in the 24 hour study room.
